Domestic cricket legend Amol Muzumdar was named as the new head coach of the Indian women's cricket team by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday, October 25.
Muzumdar was picked following an interview conducted by the Cricket Advisory Committee members Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape. While the right-handed batter didn't get a chance to represent the national team during his playing days, he finished with a stellar domestic career, chalking up 11,167 runs in 171 matches.
On the coaching front, Muzumdar has served as the batting coach for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was also the batting consultant for South Africa for their tour of India in 2019.
It is worth mentioning that the role of India women's team head coach has been vacant since Ramesh Powar's sacking last December. Following Powar's removal, Hrishikesh Kanitkar was roped in as an interim coach.
