Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni extended his hearty congratulations to Team India for winning the 2024 T20 World Cup with a special post on Instagram.

The Rohit Sharma-led side beat South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final to lift the trophy on Saturday (June 29) at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. It was the second T20 World Cup win for India, as they had also won it under Dhoni in 2007.

Former Indian captain Dhoni, who rarely posts on social media, shared an image of the team with the trophy on Instagram and wrote a congratulatory message for them. Dhoni also resonated with most of the viewers by revealing that his heart rate was up during the match. He thanked the team for a 'priceless birthday gift' even though his birthday is on July 7:

"WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS 2024. My heart rate was up,well done on being calm, having the self belief and doing what u guys did. From all the Indians back home and everywhere in the world a big thank you for bringing the World Cup Home.CONGRATULATIONS. arreeee thanks for the priceless birthday gift"

Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh star for India in 2024 World Cup final vs South Africa

Team India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first in the final.

Virat Kohli (76) anchored the innings well after a top-order collapse as he took his side to a competitive total of 176/-7, the highest in a T20 World Cup final. Axar Patel (47) and Shivam Dube (27) supported him in the middle order with handy knocks.

South Africa also got off to a poor start, as they were reduced to 12-2 in 2.3 overs. Tristan Stubbs (31) and Quinton de Kock (39) injected momentum into the innings with an impactful partnership of 58.

Heinrich Klaasen played a magnificent knock of 52 (27) to take South Africa to a comfortable position in the chase. Jasprit Bumrah (2-18), Hardik Pandya (3-20), and Arshdeep Singh (2-20), though, stepped up at the death to seal a thrilling seven-run win.
