“As soon as that helmet comes off is…it’s perfect” - Former Australia wicketkeeper’s amusing take on Shubman Gill post BGT 2024-25

Australia v India - Men
Shubman Gill has not scored a half-century away from home since December 2022.

Former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist has slammed Shubman Gill's failures with the bat in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under. The 53-year-old pointed out that the youngster should focus on his batting and deliver big instead of trying to get popular with his haircut. He tore into him, citing that the hair only looks good after scoring centuries and taking off helmets.

The blunt reply came as Gill managed just 93 runs in five innings at an average of 18.60 in the five-game series. The cricketer-turned-commentator told Club Prairie Fire on YouTube:

"I was gonna give him [Gill] a three maybe but I would give him a 4/10 because I think he know player in world cricket has better hair when they take their helmet off. As soon as that helmet comes off is… it’s perfect."

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan added that Gill needs to score big with the talent he possesses. He said in the same video.

"4/10, He [Shubman Gill] frustrates me. He’s got to get bigger scores. He’s one that wonderful, the elegant one as how we call him."

Since 110 against Bangladesh in December 2022, Gill has yet to score a half-century century away from home in his last 16 innings

Gilchrist and Vaughan also lauded Ravindra Jadeja's performance in his three outings.

Gilchrist said:

"He [Ravindra Jadeja] was plucky, he was good. He had a bit of spunked on. So, I’m gonna 7.5 maybe 8/10."

Vaughan added:

"I think he’s a brilliant cricketer. 7.5/10, he always contributes."

Jadeja scored 135 runs in five innings at an average of 27, including a half-century. His 77 in Brisbane played a key role in helping India avoid a follow-on. With the ball, the left-arm spinner bagged four wickets in the fourth Test in Melbourne but returned wicketless in the third and fifth Tests in Brisbane and Sydney.

"He got a beauty to get rid of Konstas in the second innings" - Michael Vaughan on Prasidh Krishna's performance in 2024-25 BGT 5th Test

Michael Vaughan came up with mixed reactions to Prasidh Krishna's lone outing in the fifth Test in Sydney, where the pacer bagged six wickets. The 50-year-old lauded Krishna for getting Sam Konstas' wicket in the second innings. He said in the same interaction:

"He [Prasidh Krishna] has got six wickets. I don’t think he bowled well. One or two to bounce and flight. He got a beauty to get rid of Konstas in the second innings. So, I’m gonna give him a 7. He’s got six [wickets] in one Test match."

Krishna got Konstas for 22 in the second innings to give some hope in during Australia's chase in Sydney.
