Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly come down hard on the players over their poor performance in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 against Australia. According to a report from Indian Express, the former opener lashed out at the players, saying he has had enough.

The visitors' batting performance has been the major focus, as they have struggled to put up big totals except in the second innings in Perth when they coasted to 487/6. The Boxing Day Test saw the side slip to 159/5 from being comfortably placed at 153/2. It was Nitish Kumar Reddy's century (114) and his 127-run stand with Washington Sundar that reduced Team India's deficit significantly.

The Men in Blue were set a daunting target of 340 to win on the final day after Australia's lower order put on a spirited fight. After getting to the precipice of a draw in the final session, the visitors lost their last seven wickets as Pat Cummins and company turned it into a 184-run victory to take the series lead (2-1).

According to the aforementioned report, the dressing room atmosphere is poor, as Gambhir has slammed the players for not executing the plans as discussed and doing their own thing.

“Bahut ho gaya (I’ve had enough)," Gambhir reportedly said.

Ravichandran Ashwin's retirement midway through the series and returning home has also rocked the side, with his father claiming that humiliation may have forced him to quit.

Meanwhile, captain Rohit Sharma remains under significant pressure after his woeful returns with the bat in three Tests, managing only 31 runs at 6.20. As per reports, Rohit's absence from the opening Test due to paternity leave prompted at least a couple of players to nurse captaincy ambitions. Hence, the 37-year-old could take a call on his future after the series.

According to the same report, a senior player has portrayed himself as 'Mr-Fix-it,' claiming that the youngsters are far from ready to take on leadership roles.

As far as the batting unit goes, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have also come under the firing line due to their shot selection on Day 5 in Melbourne. Kohli went chasing a wide one in both innings, while Pant played a needless shot twice to gift his wicket.

With the final Test set to take place in Sydney, beginning on January 3, the tourists must win it to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and keep their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) finals alive. India played the last two WTC finals but lost.
