Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar is impressed with Jasprit Bumrah's captaincy and has snubbed the theory that fast bowlers are not good captains. Gavaskar recalled how Kapil Dev and Imran Khan showed amazing leadership skills during their playing days.

Bumrah led the side in the opening Test against Australia in Perth in Rohit Sharma's absence and did a fabulous job. The right-arm speedster led from the front in every way to power the tourists to a 295-run win and an early series lead.

Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar, 75, observed that Bumrah doesn't seem to be pressurized by captaincy and that his bowling changes were top-class.

"He's only 30. So yes, clearly, he has shown that he can handle the cares of captaincy. Today also, the way he made the bowling changes tells you that he is putting a lot of thought into all his moves and once again disproving all that, you know bakwas that goes on that fast bowlers aren't good captains," he said.
"In our subcontinent itself, we’ve got Imran Khan, the fast bowler who's been a fabulous captain. And we've got Kapil Dev, two top class captains, excellent captains, so fast bowlers can also make good captains," he added.

The Ahmedabad-born speedster sparked Australia's batting collapse, helping Team India salvage a 46-run lead despite putting on 150 in the first innings. Bumrah also took three vital wickets in the second innings.

"This massive margin of win was not something that's easy to think of" - Sunil Gavaskar on 1st BGT Test

Sunil Gavaskar also said he wants to veer away from comparisons and just wishes to enjoy Jasprit Bumrah's class. In the same interview, he added:

"Let's not compare because there we have been some very, very great bowlers. We have had Kapil Dev, who bowled India to several great victories. Let's be happy with the fact we have got another great bowler in Jasprit Bumrah. India had the bowling attack to trouble Australia. That's for sure. But this massive margin of win was not something that's easy to think of, because even Australia had a very good pace attack. But, 295 runs is a massive, massive win."

The second Test between Australia and India begins on December 6 in Adelaide.
