BCCI not planning to shift 2nd IND vs BAN 2024 Test from Kanpur despite protest threats - Reports 

The second Test between India and Bangladesh, scheduled to be held at the Green Park in Kanpur is expected to proceed as per plan despite early calls of protests during the match. The red-ball series marks the beginning of the home season in the subcontinent, with Chennai assigned to host the first Test from September 19 onwards.

Early threats from a right-wing outfit, Hindu Mahasabha, have marred the build-up to the Test series. The group have alleged to disrupt the proceedings during the second Test against the visiting team in retaliation for the ongoing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh amid the political shift.

Despite the calls of unrest, the BCCI remains confident of hosting the second Test in Kanpur itself without any hiccups.

"Yes, we are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the concerned authorities. We have taken all necessary measures to ensure the match goes ahead as scheduled, and the stadium is fully prepared to host both teams," a BCCI official told SportsTak.

"The match is not going anywhere -- it will be held in Kanpur. However, we will continue to keep an eye on developments, both in Kanpur and at the other venues," the official added.

Bangladesh cricket team have faced issues on and off the field following the political unrest in their country. There have been a host of changes to the cricket board in terms of personnel, while the players had to leave early for their tour of Pakistan, with assistance from the PCB.

The Green Park in Kanpur last hosted a Test match in 2021

Kanpur last played host to an international contest in late 2021, during New Zealand's tour of India. The stadium witnessed the series opener between the two sides, a contest which famously ended in a thrilling draw.

Bad light became the focal point during the contest as the Blackcaps scraped through with a sole wicket remaining. The spin bowling pair of Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel played out 8.4 overs towards the end of the contest, as the play was called up before 12 minutes of the stipulated time. The clash also marked Shreyas Iyer's Test debut, which he marked with a sublime hundred.

The second Test between India and Bangladesh is slated to begin from Friday, September 27 onwards.
