County Championship Division Two 2024 Points Table: Updated standings after Sussex vs Leicestershire, Match 32

On Wednesday, June 26, a total of four matches were played in Round eight of the County Championship Division Two 2024. Yorkshire, Sussex, and Middlesex won their respective games.

Sussex secured their fourth win over Leicestershire out of eight games and strengthened the first spot with 132 points. Similarly, Middlesex beat Derbyshire by a huge 194-run margin and retained the second position with 124 points.

Yorkshire (99) jumped from seventh to third following a 22-run win over Gloucestershire. Meanwhile, Glamorgan drew their first out of games and climbed from sixth to fourth spot with 97 points.

Leicestershire (96) descended from third to fifth after suffering their seventh loss while Northamptonshire also slipped from fifth to sixth.

Gloucestershire (92) dropped from fourth to seventh with one win and two draws in eight games. Meanwhile, Derbyshire (75) continue to languish at the bottom with five losses and two ties.

Yorkshire and Sussex Lead North Group; Surrey and Essex Top South

Northampton and Glamorgan faced off in the first game of the Round 9. Northamptonshire scored 279 runs in their first innings with Emilio Gay contributing 68 runs. Glamorgan responded with 490 runs, featuring Marnus Labuschagne's 93.

As the game progressed, Northamptonshire declared at 472/8, with Lewis McManus scoring 168 off 200 balls, Ricardo Vasconcelos 99, and Luke Procter 98. Set a target of 262, Glamorgan managed 207/8 in their second innings, with Labuschagne adding 64 runs. The match ended in a draw.

In the 30th match, Middlesex scored 433 runs in their first innings against Derbyshire, with Ryan Higgins making 163 runs. Derbyshire's Toby Roland-Jones took a five-fer. They responded with 339 runs in their first innings, with Luis Reece scoring 125 runs.

In their second innings, Middlesex made 302 runs, with Alex Thomson taking four wickets for Derbyshire. While chasing a target of 397, Derbyshire scored 202 runs in their second innings, resulting in a massive loss of 194 runs.

Sussex started strongly in their game against Leicestershire, scoring 442 runs in the first innings, led by John Simpson's unbeaten 183 and Oli Carter's 96. Ian Holland was effective for Leicestershire, taking four wickets. They replied with 275 runs, with Peter Handscomb top-scoring with 92, while Sean Hunt took 4 wickets for Sussex.

In reply, Sussex declared at 296/6, with Tom Alsop scoring 81 not out. Set a target of 464, Leicestershire mounted a spirited chase, largely thanks to Louis Kimber's exceptional 243 off just 127 balls. However, they fell short by 18 runs, finishing at 445.

Yorkshire posted a commanding total of 456 runs in their first innings against Gloucestershire. Adam Lyth contributed 129 runs and Finlay Bean scored a remarkable 164. Gloucestershire struggled in their reply, managing only 197 runs.

Forced to follow on, they fared better in their second innings, scoring 237 runs, with Zaman Akhter top-scoring with 70 not out. However, it was not enough to avoid an innings defeat.

Eventually, Yorkshire clinched victory convincingly by an innings and 22 runs.
