Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana has come out in support of current Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir. Rana posted a tweet, seemingly reacting to Manoj Tiwary's comments that Gambhir took full credit for Kolkata Knight Riders' IPL 2012 and 2014 triumphs even though the other players also contributed to the team's success.
Earlier today, Tiwary spoke with News18 Bangla, where he lashed out at Gambhir after India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series by 1-3. Calling Gambhir a hypocrite, Tiwary further claimed that all credit for KKR's success went to Gambhir and not the other players.
While Nitish Rana did not mention Manoj Tiwary in his tweet, he seemingly reacted to those words with the following post:
"Criticism should be based on facts not personal insecurities. Gauti bhaiyya is one of the most selfless players I’ve ever met. He shoulders responsibility in times of distress like no other. Performance doesn’t need any PR. The trophies speak for themselves."
Rana has worked with Gambhir at the Kolkata Knight Riders as well as Delhi domestic cricket team. In IPL 2024, Rana won the IPL championship with Gambhir being KKR's mentor.
What did Manoj Tiwary say about Gautam Gambhir?
As mentioned ahead, Manoj Tiwary slammed Gambhir in his latest interview. Tiwary was a part of the KKR squad that won the IPL trophy under Gambhir's captaincy in 2012. Here's what Tiwary had to say about it:
“Gambhir didn’t guide KKR to the title single-handedly as we all performed as a unit. Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine and I, all contributed to the cause. But who took the credit?”
Gambhir will continue working as India's head coach, with his next assignment being the limited-overs home series against England. It will be interesting to see if the Indian team can get back to winning ways.
