Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Mukesh Choudhary castled Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Prabhsimran Singh with a ripper in the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarterfinal on Saturday, January 11. The match took place between Punjab and Maharashtra in Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

The dismissal came in the fourth over of Punjab's innings. Mukesh bowled a perfect outswinger and Prabhsimran attempted a drive but faltered. The ball swung away and uprooted the off-stump. The right-handed batter departed for just 14 runs off 17 balls, comprising two boundaries.

With the wicket, Mukesh helped Maharashtra escape Prabhsimran's threat. The right-handed recently smashed a hat-trick of centuries against Mumbai, Saurashtra, and Hyderabad in the tournament.

Mukesh Choudhary impressed with the ball, picking up three wickets in his first six overs. The 28-year-old bagged seven wickets in his previous five outings in the 50-over format. He recently picked up 15 wickets in six games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament.

CSK splurged ₹3 crore for Mukesh Chouhdray at the IPL 2025 auction. The Rajasthan-born player had previously bagged 14 wickets in 13 games for the Chennai-based franchise in the IPL 2022 season. With a lack of experienced pacers, he remains critical to the Super Kings' success in IPL 2025. He will play alongside pacers like Nathan Ellis and Khaleel Ahmed.

Meanwhile, Prabhsmiran Singh was retained by PBKS for ₹4 crore ahead of the auction. The 24-year-old has amassed 756 runs in 34 matches at a strike rate of 146.22 for the Punjab-based franchise since 2019. He scored more than 300 runs in his last two IPL seasons. He was retained alongside IPL 2024 batting sensation Shashank Singh.

As far as the match is concerned, Maharashtra posted 275/6 in their allotted 50 overs. In response, Punjab were 203/9 after 44.2 overs.
