Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have retained four capped players and one uncapped player ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. They have gone for Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, and MS Dhoni as their five retentions.
Gaikwad and all-rounder Jadeja are Chennai Super Kings' primary retention for ₹18 core each. Sri Lankan pacer Pathirana has been retained for ₹13 crore and all-rounder Dube for ₹12 crore. On expected lines, former captain Dhoni is CSK's uncapped Indian retention for ₹4 crore.
Each of the franchises was given the option of retaining a maximum of five capped and a maximum of two uncapped players as per modified rules for the tournament. Apart from direct retentions, teams have also been given the option to use the Right to Match (RTM) option to retain players at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

CSK purse for IPL 2025 Auction
Having announced their retention list, CSK have a purse of ₹55 crore left for the mega auction. They retained four capped players and one uncapped player for a total of ₹65 crore.
Chennai Super Kings narrowly missed qualifying for the playoffs in the 2024 season. They finished fifth in the points table, with seven wins and as many losses, going down to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their last league game.
Apart from Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings are the only other side to win the IPL five times. They lifted the crown under Dhoni's leadership in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023.
