Sydney Thunder captain David Warner was involved in an unusual moment during his team's BBL 2024-25 match against Hobart Hurricanes on January 10. The left-handed batter ended up breaking his bat while trying for a shot, and unfortunately, the broken part of the willow hit him on his helmet.
The incident took place on the first ball of the fourth over bowled by Riley Meredith. He bowled a full delivery around the off-stump line, which David Warner smacked straight to mid-on. While Warner did not get any runs for the shot, his bat broke and hit him on the head.
The BBL's official X handle shared the video of the incident on their profile.
"David Warner's bat broke and he's hit himself in the head with it (laughing emoji)," BBL captioned the clip.
It was an eventful over from Riley Meredith as he dismissed Warner's opening partner Sam Konstas later in the same over. Meredith bowled a short delivery. Konstas tried to hit it past the keeper but the ball hit his gloves and went straight to the wicketkeeper Matthew Wade.
Can David Warner help Sydney Thunder defeat the Hobart Hurricanes?
Warner is still unbeaten in the middle for Sydney Thunder in their ongoing match against the Hobart Hurricanes. The southpaw has scored 33 runs off 27 balls, including two fours.
It seems like the conditions are not that great for batting at the Bellerive Oval because the other Sydney batters have also had a strike rate of less than 130.
Sam Konstas and Matthew Gilkes are already back in the hut. Oliver Davies has joined Warner in the middle, with the team's score at 53/2 after eight overs. Riley Meredith and Chris Jordan have bagged a wicket each for the Hobart Hurricanes. You can follow the live scorecard of the match right here.
