Indian cricketer Deepak Chahar’s wife Jaya Bhardwaj took to social media to express her admiration for a photo of her husband wearing the jersey of his new Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Mumbai Indians (MI).
The 32-year-old was acquired by the Indians for INR 9.25 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction. Prior to that, he played for Chennai Super Kings for seven seasons, from 2018 to 2024, where he took 76 wickets in the same number of matches.
On January 2, the Mumbai franchise's official Instagram account shared an image of Deepak sporting the Blue and Gold jersey. Jaya Bhardwaj, the Rajasthan cricketer’s wife, shared her reaction on Instagram Stories by reposting Mumbai's post, writing:
“Whose that!😍”
Chahar and Jaya have been married for more than two years. He proposed to her at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium during the 2021 IPL, and they tied the knot on June 1, 2022, in Agra.
On the cricketing front, the right-arm pacer has been representing Rajasthan in the ongoing 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he has taken five wickets in four matches. He is expected to return to action in the Round 6 game against Railways, scheduled for Friday, January 3.
Deepak Chahar holds the record for the best bowling figures by an Indian in T20I
The Rajasthan cricketer made his India debut in a T20I against England in July 2018, where he claimed one wicket. His best performance for the Men in Blue came against Bangladesh in the series decider at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur in 2019.
Chahar took six wickets, conceding just seven runs in his 3.2-over spell, as India won the match by 30 runs while defending 174, securing the series 2-1. This remains the best bowling performance by an Indian in T20I history.
Overall, he has taken 31 wickets in 25 T20I matches. In addition, he has represented the nation in 13 ODIs, claiming 16 wickets.
