Australia's F1 star Oscar Piastri has drawn comparisons between the Virat Kohli-Sam Konstas controversy and the incident with Charles Leclerc at the Azerbaijan GP. The celebrity F1 driver was invited on the third day (Saturday, December 28) to witness the action during the fourth Test between India and Australia.
Oscar Piastri was interviewed by former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist. During the interview, the F1 star gave his thoughts about the Virat Kohli-Sam Konstas shoulder barge controversy. The incident occurred during the opening day (Thursday, December 26) of the Melbourne Test.
Piastri recalled his late-breaking overtake of Charles Leclerc at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Reflecting on the same, he stated that he did not 'cop a hip and shoulder.'
“It has been a cool year and that was a highlight - I didn't cop a hip and shoulder for trying to take him on either so that was good," Oscar Piastri said.
Oscar Piastri talks about his relationship with cricket
Speaking about his connection with cricket, Oscar Piastri stated that he had been to the Boxing Day Test once before while he was in the UK. He also added that he had witnessed a few T20s and ODIs when he was a kid.
"Being in a British team, there is a lot of banter going on, especially when the Ashes are on. I've been [to the Boxing Day Test] once before but only a couple of years ago. I came to a few 20/20s and one dayers when I was a kid but then I was away for ages in Europe. It's nice to be back and it's my first time properly out in the middle during cricket season, not footy season," he said.
The F1 star stated that cricket was one of the sports he played while growing up.
"I was more of a bowler than a batter, but never at a very high level. It was kind of the only sport left that I could play in the off-season of racing. I always tried to play it, even when I moved to the UK for school," the 23-year-old mentioned.
Notably, Piastri once faced Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc in the nets in the UK when Australia toured England for the Ashes.
