Fans have taken to social media and are having a go at the umpires regarding the dismissals of Team India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and pacer Akash Deep on Day 5 (Monday, December 30) of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test. The match was being played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

There were two debatable umpiring calls made on the day, both favoring the hosts. In Jaiswal's case, third umpire Sharfuddoula went with visual evidence and not with the UltraEdge. Next was Akash Deep, against whom there was an appeal for bat-pad but the replays showed a spike, even when the ball passed the bat.

Fans vented their frustrations on the umpiring decisions and made their feelings known through their social media handles. One fan had the following to say:

"Both decisions were correct, at the same time fans deserve to have better clarity on the procedures and priorities that take order in such situations and they have every reason to be frustrated because it’s not been made easy for them to know."

Take a look at a few other reactions:

"KL decision: We believe in Snicko, not eyes. Jaiswal decision: We believe in Eyes, not Snicko. Either way, it will favour Australia," - a user said.
"If Snicko shows no deflection, how can Yashasvi still be given out?," another user quipped.
"Yes, Yashasvi was out. Fair, you see a clear deflection and ignore snicko on the basis of it. But very next referral you trust the same snicko that you just ignored and ask umpire to overturn decision n give out. That's just inconsistent and wrong," a third user quipped.

Australia beat India by 184 runs in the fourth Test and took a series lead of 2-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). Batting first, the hosts scored 474, thanks to a ton from Steve Smith (140 off 197) and half-centuries from Sam Konstas, Usman Khawaja, and Marnus Labuschagne.

India had only one top-order batter Yashasvi Jaiswal (82 off 118) get to a half-century before Washington Sundar (50 off 162) and centurion Nitish Kumar Reddy (114 off 189) ensured India ended with 369.

The third innings of the match saw the Australian top and middle order fail to capitalise before a lower-order rearguard effort from Pat Cummins (41 off 90) and Nathan Lyon (41 off 55) helped them set a target of 340 for the visitors.

Barring Yashasvi Jaiswal (84 off 208) and Rishabh Pant (30 off 105), no other batter failed to get past double digits as Team India were bowled out for 155 and slumped to a 184-run loss.
