Team India batters copped criticism from fans after they failed to deliver on Day 2 of the opening Test against New Zealand on Thursday (October 17). The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is hosting the clash. The play on the first day of this Test was washed out due to persistent showers.
After opting to bat first on the morning session of Day 2, India got bundled out for a paltry 46. Rishabh Pant was the highest scorer with 20 runs, while five batters bagged ducks.
Fans were highly disappointed with Indian batters for their poor performance and questionable shot selection in the first innings of the Test against New Zealand in damp and overcast conditions. They expressed their reactions by sharing hilarious memes on social media platforms.
Here are some of the best ones:
India record their lowest Test total at home during 1st innings of first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and made an interesting decision to bat first. It was a surprising one considering the overcast and damp conditions, as the surface was under covers for a long time due to rain at the venue.
New Zealand pacers Matt Henry and Tim Southee utilized the bowling-friendly conditions and swung the new ball consistently to trouble opposition openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
After struggling for a while, Rohit tried to break the shackles with a big drive but got cleaned up by an inswinger from Tim Southee. Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan came in next and followed their captain to the pavilion in successive overs without scoring a run.
Rishabh Pant (20) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) then arrested the flow of wickets for a while with their 21-run partnership for around 10 overs. William ORourke dismissed Jaiswal in the 21st over to trigger another collapse, as India went from 31/3 to 46 all-out in 31.5 overs.
Courtesy of the dismal batting effort, India now have an unwanted record for the lowest score at home and also in Asia.
