Star batter Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Indian team in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, set to start in Pallekele on July 27. Suryakumar has taken over the reins of T20I captaincy from Rohit Sharma, who retired along with Virat Kohli from the format after the T20 World Cup triumph.

Suryakumar has had a brief captaincy experience with the Indian team, winning the T20 series against Australia 4-1 last year and following it up with a 1-1 result against South Africa. However, with Hardik Pandya also named in the side, it seems clear that Suryakumar is the one the Men in Blue are looking at as captain ahead of the next T20 World Cup in 2026.

Fans on Twitter were thrilled to see Suryakumar Yadav named as captain after making his debut in the format just three years ago.
