The first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 matches concluded on Sunday (September 8) after Abhimanyu Easwaran-led India B side beat Shubman Gill's India A comfortably by 76 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In the other match, India C registered a four-wicket victory against India D inside three days at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur.

The tournament commenced last Thursday with all four teams in action. Youngster Musheer Khan rescued India B in their first innings of the match against India A after they collapsed to 94/7 and took them to a decent total of 321 with his brilliant 181-run knock.

Riding on the momentum, their bowling unit bundled India A for 231. Abhimanyu Easwaran's team then scored 184 in their second innings and set a target of 275 for the opponents. Shubman Gill-led side got all-out for 198 in the final innings and lost the match by 76 runs.

KL Rahul tried his best with a patient knock of 57 (121) in the chase but could not finish the job. Akash Deep impressed in the bowling department of the A side with a nine-wicket haul.

Under Shreyas Iyer's leadership, India D batted first in the contest against Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India C and were skittled out for 164. Axar Patel was the lone warrior for the team in the batting department, with a valiant knock of 86 (118). India C scored 168 in their first innings and secured a marginal lead of four runs.

Shreyas Iyer (54) and Devdutt Padikkal (56) hit half-centuries and helped India D reach 236 in their second innings. India C then chased down the target of 233 in 61 overs and won the match by four wickets on Saturday.
