Montreal Tigers defeated Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the second match of Global T20 Canada 2024 by 33 runs after posting 189 runs for the loss of six wickets. In the third match, Brampton Wolves scored 198 runs for the loss of six wickets against Surrey Jaguars and won by 59 runs.
Brampton Wolves, Toronto Nationals, and Montreal Tigers have so far won their first match of the season in the Global T20 Canada 2024. They are in the first three places in the points table with a net run rate of +2.950, +2.068, and +1.650.
Bangla Tigers Mississauga, Vancouver Knights, and Surrey Jaguars lost their matches in the first two days of the tournament. They are in the next three positions with a net run rate of -1.650, -2.068, and -2.950.
Montreal Tigers roar to victory as Ashton Agar shines
In the second match of the season, Bangla Tigers Mississauga won the toss and elected to bowl against Montreal Tigers, whose batting revolved around Ashton Agar, Tim Seifert, Dilpreet Bajwa, and Ben Manenti. All the batters scored more than 40 runs and helped the team post a total of 189 runs for the loss of six wickets. David Wiese’s experience came in handy for the Bangla Tigers as he took three wickets for 30 runs.
Aayan Afzal Khan was the story of the second innings as he claimed four wickets for 40 runs in four overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s valiant effort of 64 runs off 39 deliveries could only help the Bangla Tigers reach 156 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Agar won the Player of the Match award for his 41-run knock off 29 deliveries.
In the next game, Surrey Jaguars won the toss against Brampton Wolves and elected to bowl. It was the only time the Jaguars had any lead in the match. Scottish wicketkeeper-batter George Munsey’s knock of 69 runs off 44 deliveries, followed by Akhil Kumar’s unbeaten 34-run knock off 16 deliveries, helped Wolves almost breach the 200-run mark. Ben Lister was the most successful bowler for the Jaguars and finished with two wickets for 22 runs in four overs.
The Jaguars’ batters failed to give the team a positive start. The team lost their first five wickets before reaching the 50-run mark. The Jaguars could only score 139 runs for the loss of seven wickets and lost the match by 59 runs. Thomas Draca took three wickets, while Aryan Dutt picked two wickets for the Wolves.
