"Grade cricketer vibes about him" - Fans troll Sam Konstas for early dismissal on Day 2 of 5th BGT 2024-25 Test

Young Australian opener Sam Konstas was dismissed early on Day 2 of the high-octane fifth Test against India in Sydney. Despite debuting for Australia only in the previous Test at Melbourne, the 19-year-old has dominated the headlines for his aggression with the bat and antics.

Konstas impressed with a sensational 65-ball 60 in his maiden innings at Melbourne, helping Australia eventually pull off an 184-run win. The youngster also riled Virat Kohli with his attacking batting in the Melbourne Test and the tempers flared again at the end of Day 1 of the ongoing Sydney outing.

With a ball to go in the day, Konstas went at ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who retaliated after removing Usman Khawaja on the final ball of the day. It set up the excitement for the second day with Konstas living up to the hype with a couple of boundaries.

However, Mohammed Siraj got the better of him with an outswinger outside off-stump, which he nicked to Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully for a 38-ball 23.

Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar felt Sam Konstas' aggression was similar to a young Virat Kohli after the former's altercation with the Indian players at the end of Day 1 of the ongoing Sydney Test.

Kohli has had a long and heated history with Australian players and their crowd throughout his stellar career.

Speaking to India Today at the close of play on Day 1, Gavaskar said:

"It's not about the batting; it's about what happens on the field when someone’s behaviour stirs things up. It reminds me of a young Kohli who is upfront and provocative, drawing reactions from the opposition. That’s exactly what we saw here."

He added:

"Just before the delivery that dismissed him, Sam Konstas had something to say to Jasprit Bumrah—something that really wasn’t his business at that stage. Naturally, Bumrah and the rest of the team responded, and things escalated from there."

Konstas' early dismissal on Day 2 left Australia in trouble as they were reduced to 39/4 in the 12th over in response to India's first innings total of 185.
