Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has been in the spotlight after his recent comments on head coach Gautam Gambhir. He stirred up controversy after calling Gambhir a "hypocrite" following the conclusion of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series.

Another former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra, on his YouTube channel, spoke about Manoj Tiwary's comments on Gambhir. Chopra accepted that the reason why the former Kolkata Knight Riders player called Gambhir a 'hypocrite' was not wrong.

Tiwary took to his X (formerly Twitter) account and put out a video responding to Aakash Chopra.

"Talking specifically about Aakash bhai, in his video, he started by explaining about how Manoj called Gautam hypocrite. He also accepted that it is was the right thing," Tiwary said.

Manoj Tiwary also spoke about Aakash Chopra's views on the post and Harshit Rana and Nitish Rana's defense of Gautam Gambhir.

"After that he told that two players put out similar posts on Instagram, one posted and one put a story. It appeared as though one person only asked them to change the lines here and there and post it. He (Chopra) also accepted that it was done by one person," he added.

I did not clean my hands in the flowing river - Manoj Tiwary offers clarification on Aakash Chopra's comment

Following the BGT 2024-25 series defeat, Gautam Gambhir was widely criticized for his tactics. Former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Sanjay Manjrekar also questioned Gambhir's approach and the team's dismal results.

At the same time, Manoj Tiwary called Gambhir a 'hypocrite'. Aakash Chopra stated that following Gavaskar and Manjrekar's comments, Tiwary also 'cleaned his hands in the flowing river' by commenting on Gambhir.

However, in the aforementioned video, he clarified that he did not intend to just join a list of critics.

"There a lot of Twitter handles that do PR work. They have played specific clips and maybe Aakash bhai has seen those 4-5 lines and given his opinion. I want to clear this. He said that Manoj cleaned his hands in the flowing river. Here the talk was about Sunil Gavaskar and Sanjay Manjrekar that these people also criticized Gambhir's coaching a lot. So when this was going on Manoj Tiwary also cleaned his hands in the flowing river," he said.
"There is nothing like that. I do not need to do any such thing. This thing happened 4-5 days ago and I did not even follow what they (Gavaskar and Sanjay) told. I just told what I felt in the interview. It is not like I talk only when things are already heated. The person came by himself to take my interview," Manoj Tiwary clarified.
