Former cricketer Greg Chappell is already looking at the Ashes series later this year and has singled out England's Harry Brook as the biggest threat to home side Australia. Chappell believes the right-handed batter's performances are already comparable to that of India legend Sachin Tendulkar.

The 25-year-old has delivered notable performances across formats, especially in the Test arena where he is ranked No. 2 currently. The Yorkshire batter averages 58.48 in 24 Tests, scoring 2281 runs, including eight centuries, headlined by a best of 317.

Writing in his column for The Sydney Morning Herald, the 76-year-old remarked that England seemed to have assembled a group of players that could dominate the next generation.

Chappell wrote:

"England, under the bold and transformative leadership of Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum, are not just rebuilding, they are surging ahead with a team that looks equipped to dominate for a generation. Central to this optimism is the emergence of Harry Brook, a batting sensation whose performances and approach I compare to the great Sachin Tendulkar."
"Remarkably, Brook’s early career stats suggest he might even have outpaced the Indian maestro in terms of impact at the same stage," he added.

Although England registered a series win in New Zealand recently, they lost in India and Pakistan and dropped a Test to Sri Lanka at home. Furthermore, they failed to win back the Ashes urn in 2023 at home. Hence, the 2025-26 Ashes series looms as the Englishmen's biggest challenge.

Chappell also lauded the youngster for adopting an uncomplicated technique to score runs that also allows him to adjust to angles comfortably. In the same column, the former Team India coach added:

"At just 25, Brook has rapidly become one of the most talked-about cricketers in the world. He boasts a simple but devastatingly effective batting method. Much like Tendulkar in his early years, Brook doesn’t move excessively in the crease before the ball is delivered. His stability and minimalistic technique allow him to read the angles of the bowler and adjust his strokes with precision."
"The result? An extraordinary ability to score from most deliveries, whether they’re pitched full, short or on an awkward length," he wrote.

The 2025-26 Ashes series begins on November 21, 2025, in Perth. England haven't won a Test Down Under since 2011.
