Former Australia batter Michael Hussey was disappointed by how Rohit Sharma conducted himself after Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped Marnus Labuschagne in the slip cordon. The Indian skipper threw a tantrum after the ball was spilled, including an exaggerated movement with his hand along with a shout.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was left dejected after he realized his mistake while the batter received a second life. Rohit Sharma was also critical of Yashasvi Jaiswal's efforts at silly point earlier in the contest, where the youngster was trying to evade, and reacting earlier than required. He dropped Cummins at the close-in position, leaving Rohit an incensed figure yet again.
Jaiswal was under pressure early in the day after dropping Khawaja at leg gully of Bumrah's bowling.
Michael Hussey noted how the skipper's extreme reaction to the dropped catches could impact Jaiswal's performance.
“I’ve got to be honest, I don’t like that reaction from the Indian skipper. I appreciate he’s emotional, and he desperately wants wickets, but you’re the one who has to send the message of calm and support. No-one means to drop a catch. He’s gonna feel bad enough as it is for putting a catch down, especially someone like Marnus Labuschagne, it happens quickly, it’s in, it’s out. You don’t need to see that as a young player," Hussey said on Fox Sports
The dropped chances could prove to be costly as it has led to an increase in Australia's lead in the second innings.
Rohit Sharma and Team India dealing with the Australian tail in the final session
Labuschagne scored some handy runs after being given a reprieve until he was trapped LBW by Mohammed Siraj in the 56th over for 70 runs. Australia imploded further after Mitchell Starc was run out following a mix-up with Pat Cummins.
The Australian skipper is still standing tall, unbeaten on 34 runs off 75 deliveries as the hosts are currently placed at 161-8 with a lead of 266 runs.
