Virat Kohli continued his horror run in 2024 with arguably his worst dismissal on Day 2 (Friday, October 25) of the second Test against New Zealand in Pune. Coming in at 50/2 in response to New Zealand's first innings total of 259, much was expected from India's talismanic batter. Fans have criticized him for the manner he got out.
However, Kohli flattered to deceive again by missing a potential full toss off Mitchell Santner while playing across the line to see his stumps disturbed. The 35-year-old walked back to the dressing room for a 9-ball 1, much to the shock of the Pune crowd.
Kohli has endured a forgettable year in international cricket, averaging 22.19 with only two half-centuries in 22 outings. His Test form has been equally dismal in 2024 with an average of under 29 in nine innings.
His most recent dismissal did not go down well with fans on X/Twitter, who expressed their disappointment with the following reactions:
Fans continued expressing their disappointment over Kohli's dismissal, with one saying:
"Poor form for Virat Kohli continues. He is not serious for cricket anymore."
"We will never see that 2015-2019 virat kohli again he may score runs again but will never be same class same flow same consistency like before , missing a easy full toss seriously?" tweeted a fan.
"The worst part about Virat Kohli's dismissal was that he couldn't even react as if it turned sharply or was a jaffa. He missed a full toss," a fan said.
Virat Kohli's dismissal leaves Team India in deep trouble
Virat Kohli's wicket was one of the five that New Zealand have picked up thus far in the morning session on Day 2 of the second Test.
Having already stunned the hosts with an eight-wicket win in the first Test in Bengaluru, the Black Caps scored a competitive 259 in their first essay with the bat on a challenging track yesterday.
They removed India's skipper Rohit Sharma late on Day 1 to leave India at 16/1 at stumps. However, the New Zealand bowlers were on the money to start Day 2 to take control of the Test match.
Mitchell Santner removed a well-set Shubman Gill for 30 and followed it up with the massive scalp of Kohli. Part-time off-spinner Glenn Phillips continued his happy knack of picking up wickets by removing Yashasvi Jaiswal for 30 to leave India 70/4 in the 27th over.
Phillips bagged his second wicket immediately by removing the dangerous Rishabh Pant to leave India in dire straits at 85/5 after 31 overs.
