Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina is known for his epic one-liners in press conferences. He was once again at his best during a recent interaction, this time regarding a question about MS Dhoni's future.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain will turn 42 in July and many feel this could be his last IPL season. However, Raina, who has known Dhoni and played alongside him for so many years for India as well as for CSK, believes the veteran can play for another year.
In a media interaction arranged by Jio Cinema, Suresh Raina, who is also an IPL expert, explained how well MS Dhoni has led CSK this season. He said:
"Dhoni was telling me he will win the trophy and play for one more year (sarcastic laughs). He is looking good and batting really well. The team combination is also set. So I think the entire India would want him to play on.
"It will depend on him and his body and he will take that call. As much as I have known him, I think he should play for one more season."
Suresh Raina on Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja's performances in IPL 2023
Before the start of the IPL 2023 season, Suresh Raina had exclusively spoken to Sportskeeda. During the conversation, he expressed excitement at getting to see Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja perform well for CSK in front of their home crowd at the Chepauk.
Having seen the way the Super Kings have played, here's what he had to reply to a query from Sportskeeda:
"Ruturaj has been scoring runs for 2-3 seasons consistently. Even Jadeja, the way he is picking wickets in situations, is looking happy. They played in Chepauk after quite some time and have found the right balance."
Suresh Raina also predicted the Super Kings to make it to the final of the IPL 2023 season. He added:
"What has impressed me the most is Ruturaj's partnership with [Devon] Conway. They have enjoyed playing in front of their fans after so long and the team looks settled.
"I won't be surprised if they make it to the final. This last phase of the league stage is going to be important with many teams having a chance to qualify."
Gaikwad has scored 384 runs in 10 innings in IPL 2023, while Jadeja has picked up 15 wickets in 11 outings at an economy rate of 7.38 and average of 19.20.
