Former Australian Test cricketer Greg Blewett has slammed David Warner over wanting to come out of retirement ahead of the Test series against India. The ex-opener referred to Warner as 'self-absorbed' over his statement.

On Monday, October 21, Warner shocked the cricket world by declaring himself available to play for Australia again. The dynamic opener retired from international cricket in June after the T20 World Cup 2024 game against India.

Speaking on Triple M Adelaide's Rush Hour with Bernie, Blewey and Jars, Blewett hit out at Warner, saying (via www.nine.com.au):

"I honestly never heard so much garbage in my life. It's self-absorbed and the guys getting around him work for the same company he's going to commentate for this summer. (They're) saying Australia don't know what they've missed out on, or how lucky we've had with David Warner, and we didn't respect him enough."

Having made his debut in 2011, Warner was one of the most aggressive openers of his era. In 112 Tests, the southpaw finished with 8786 runs at 44.59 with 26 tons alongside a best of 335* against Pakistan.

The 52-year-old went on to call David Warner an average cricketer. Blewett reckons young blood is required this summer to fill the gap.

"He was just average, now he's putting his hand up saying 'I wanna be the saviour'?. Let someone else have a go. Young Sam Konstas is going to be very, very good if they give him the opportunity. Josh Inglis might get an opportunity. Nathan McSweeney might get a job as well. It's not like he was making run after run after run, and we get him back into the side and it'll just fill a gap for this summer," he said in the same interview.

The highly-anticipated Test series against Australia and India begins on November 22 in Perth.
