Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are two of the biggest batting superstars Indian cricket has produced in the last decade and a half. Their records speak for themselves. Having made his international debut in 2008, Kohli has amassed 26,965 runs across formats at an average of 53.18. Rohit, debuting in 2007, has 19,245 international runs to his name at an average of 43.15.

Both batters have been instrumental in India's impressive run in ICC events over the last year. Kohli (765) and Rohit (597) were the top two run-getters as the Men in Blue finished runners-up in the 2023 ODI World Cup. As captain, Rohit smashed 297 runs in eight innings as India lifted the 2024 T20 World Cup. Kohli had a poor tournament but was the Player of the Match in the final for his 76.

While Ro-Ko have delivered some superb performances with the bat over the years, like the best in the business, they have also experienced failures, proving that they are only human. If we talk about ducks, Rohit has been dismissed without scoring 33 times in international cricket, while Kohli has been out for zero 37 times.

Bifurcating the stats based on formats, Rohit has five ducks in 103 Test innings, 16 in 257 ODI innings, and 12 in 151 T20I innings. Shifting focus to Kohli, he has registered 14 ducks in 193 Test innings, 16 in 283 one-day innings, and seven in 125 T20I innings.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli disappointed in the 1st Test against Bangladesh

Rohit and Kohli were part of the Indian team that took on Bangladesh in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. While the hosts won the contest by 280 runs, both the senior batters failed to make an impact.

Skipper Rohit was dismissed for 6 by Hasan Mahmud in the first innings, caught in the slip cordon off a probing delivery outside off. He fell similarly in the second innings for 5, this time to Taskin Ahmed.

Looking at Kohli's performance at Chepauk, he played a loose drive outside off in the first innings and was caught behind off Mahmud for 6. In the second essay, he was trapped lbw by Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 17. He could have overturned the decision had he taken the DRS, but decided against a review.

Both batters will look to make amends in the second Test in Kanpur starting Friday, September 27.
