Former Australian skipper Michael Clarke has showered praise on Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for his consistency across all three formats of cricket. Clarke labelled Bumrah as the greatest three-format bowler ever.

Speaking on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Michael Clarke reviewed the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between India and Australia. Clarke spoke about the Man of the Series Jasprit Bumrah, who scalped 32 wickets in nine innings for the visitors.

The former Australian captain said that he always prefers to pick Man of the Series from the winning team, but Bumrah deserved the award in his view.

"I'm a big one for Man of the Match or Player of the Series, I think should always go to the winning team, but I think they made the right decision. Bumrah was the Player of the Series," Clarke said. [6.30 onwards]

Clarke further mentioned that among the bowlers who have played Tests, ODIs and T20Is, Bumrah is the greatest one.

"Any bowler that has played all three formats, so not Curtly Ambrose, Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath, they never got to play 20-20 cricket, I'm not talking about those guys. Since T20 came in with ODIs and Tests, I think Jasprit Bumrah is the greatest bowler ever across all 3 formats. He is that good," Clarke added.

Notably, Bumrah is the world number one bowler in ICC Test Rankings and ranked sixth in the ODI format. Last year, he won the Man of the Tournament award in the T20 World Cup 2024.

"I think Jasprit Bumrah is India's most important player" - Michael Clarke

During the same podcast, Michael Clarke opined that Bumrah is more valuable to the Indian team than Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma right now. Here's what the former Australian captain said:

"I've always loved Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. I think Jasprit Bumrah is India's most important player right now."

Bumrah suffered an injury during the final Test of the BGT series. There is a question mark over his availability for the upcoming series between India and England.
