Australian cricket legend Mark Waugh, who now plies his trade as a commentator, made a hilarious comment on New Zealand and Sydney Thunder bowler Lockie Ferguson's run-up in a recent Big Bash League match. In the game between Brisbane Heat and the Thunder on Monday (January 6), Ferguson lost his footing a few times while coming in to bowl.
However, he rectified himself as soon as he could and went on to deliver the ball. Most bowlers tend to stop their run-up and start afresh, but the Kiwi did not do that and carried on. This led Waugh, who was in the commentary box, to wonder if Ferguson was imitating India pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The Heat beat the Thunder by five wickets in this match.
"I thought it was Jasprit Bumrah halfway through the run up!" exclaimed Waugh while commentating.

For the uninitiated, Bumrah's run-up is a tad unorthodox, in which he stops and starts before gaining momentum. The Gujarat seamer too is seen to be taking his time in getting into his rhythm and coming with full force to deliver the ball to the batter. His is also an extremely small run-up for someone who bowls so fast.
Jasprit Bumrah was India's sole performer in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Bumrah was India's sole performer in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which they relinquished to Australia after losing the series 1-3. The pacer picked up 32 wickets in the series and was rewarded with the Player of the Series accolade for his exploits.
Bumrah also led India to their sole win in the first Test in Perth, stepping up in regular captain Rohit Sharma's absence. He was entrusted with the responsibility of doing so again in the final Test of the series in Sydney, in which Sharma stepped down owing to poor form with the bat in hand.
Bumrah could not bowl during Australia's second innings due to a back spasm, and this contributed to India's defeat at the SCG to Australia by six wickets.
