The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the nominees for the Men's and Women's Player of the Month for October 2024. As far as the Men's category is concerned, it includes New Zealand's Mitchell Santner, Pakistan's Noman Ali and South Africa's Kagiso Rabada.
Left-arm spinner Noman Ali was recalled for the final two Tests of the series against England. The 38-year-old spinner finished the series as the leading wicket-taker, picking up 20 scalps in four innings at 13.85. Noman took a staggering 11 wickets in the second Test in Multan, followed by nine in Rawalpindi.
Meanwhile, pace spearhead Rabada joined an elite list of South Africans to take 300 Test wickets when he dismissed Bangladesh's Mushfiqur Rahim on Day 1 of the opening game in Dhaka. The 29-year-old took 14 wickets in two Tests with as many five-wicket hauls as the Proteas won the series 2-0. Black Caps bowling all-rounder Mitchell Santner delivered one of the best bowling spells in India as he took 13 wickets in the Pune Test against India to deliver a 113-run victory.
ICC's nominees for the Women's Player of the Month for October 2024
The ICC has named Amelia Kerr, Laura Wolvaardt and Deandra Dottin for the Women's Player of the Month October 2024. Kerr played a vital role in New Zealand's Women's T20 World Cup 2024 win, scoring 135 runs and taking 15 scalps. Her contribution in the final against South Africa was most critical, crafting a knock of 43 alongside figures of 4-0-24-3 as the White Ferns sealed the title.
South African captain Laura Wolvaardt finished the global tournament as the leading run-getter with 223 runs in six innings at 44.60. She also top-scored for the Proteas in the final with 33 off 27 balls, but the Proteas suffered a heartbreaking loss. West Indies' Dottin was on fire during the Women's T20 World Cup, compiling 120 runs, striking at 162.16. Additionally, the West Indian also took five scalps in as many matches.
The semi-final against New Zealand saw Dottin smack three sixes in an over as the West Indies were chasing a stiff total. But they fell short and were eliminated from the event.
