Scotland handed Namibia a 138-run larruping in match 18 of the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two on Friday, July 26 at Dundee’s Forthill.
After being invited to bat first, Scotland opener and ODI debutant Michael English held his team’s top-order charge. This is despite losing Charlie Tear and number three Brandon McMullen early in the innings. English compiled 107 runs from 122 balls to take the side past the 200-run mark alongside captain and half-centurion Richie Berrington (89 off 81 balls).
Chris Greaves and Mark Watt added handy runs at the death as Scotland formed a commendable 301/6 from 50 overs. Among the Namibian bowlers, Shaun Fouché picked up figures of 3/60 from 10 overs. Meanwhile, new-ball bowlers Tangeni Lungameni and Ben Shikongo picked up a scalp at the expense of 64 runs each.
Chasing 302, Namibia lost each of their top three batters with just nine runs on the board inside the first six overs. Captain Gerhard Erasmus fought back with a valiant 53 to top-score for his team. However, Gerhard’s resistance made little-to- no difference as Brad Currie (3/25) and Gavin Main (3/32) enveloped Namibia’s entire line-up for just 163. They secured a 138-run win for Scotland.
