On Tuesday (August 13), the United States faced Canada in the 20th match of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 at the Hague. Interestingly, it was the first game for the United States, while Canada made their sixth appearance in the tournament.
The United States batted first and got off to a strong start with their openers, Steven Taylor (27) and Smit Patel (63). Then, skipper Monank Patel played a spectacular knock, slamming 121* off 95, while Shayan Jahangir provided support with 57*-run knock. As a result, the USA posted a formidable total of 304 on the board.
In response, Canada lost their opener Aaditya Varadarajan (4) early. Aaron Johnson (55) and Pargat Singh (42) steadied the innings but lost their wickets at the wrong time. Most of Canada's batters failed to make substantial contributions. However, a sensational 125-run partnership between Harsh Thaker and Dillon Heyliger brought the game close.
Heyliger (56) was dismissed in the 48th over, while Thaker made way in the final over after scoring a terrific 77 as Canada lost the game by 14 runs.
