The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A 2024 is underway in Malaysia. A total of three games were played Thursday (August 5) across two venues.
In the 13th match, Kuwait beat Malaysia comprehensively. Singapore walked past Mongolia unscathed in the 14th match of the competition, whereas Maldives defeated Myanmar in a one-sided affair in the 15th match.
Hong Kong top the points table with four wins in as many games. They have a net run rate of +8.182. Kuwait are also unbeaten in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A 2024. They sit below Hong Kong with a net run rate of +6.676 after both have eight points each.
Malaysia are placed third in the points table with six points under their belt. Singapore retained their fourth position in the points table after their win over Mongolia. They have taken their points tally to four and have boosted their net run rate to +2.807.
Maldives registered their first win of the tournament and have moved to the fifth position from sixth. They have two points and a net run rate of -3.016 to their name. Myanmar have slipped to the sixth spot after suffering their fourth loss.
Myanmar also have two points under their belt but have a net run rate of -3.168 and sit below Maldives. Mongolia suffered their fourth straight loss in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A 2024 and are languishing at the bottom of the points table with a net run rate of -7.051.
Mongolia get bundled out for the joint-lowest T20I score in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A 2024
In the 14th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A 2024, Mongolia were asked to bat first. What followed was a dream bowling performance from Singapore, as Mongolia got bundled out for just 10 in as many overs, the joint-lowest score in T20Is.
The top-score in the Mongolian scorecard was two. Harsha Bharadwaj blew away the Mongolian batting line-up, returning with astonishing figures of 6/3 in his four overs, which included two maidens.
Manpreet Singh departed on a golden duck on the first ball of the chase but William Simpson (6*) and Raoul Sharma (7*) remained unbeaten to take Singapore across the line in just five balls with nine wickets in hand.
Kuwait opted to bowl first in the 13th match and an inspired bowling performance saw them restrict Malaysia to 149/7. Virandeep Singh top-scored with 43 for the hosts. Yasin Patel bowled beautifully and picked up three wickets for Kuwait.
In reply, Clinto Anto (34), Meet Bhavsar (39*) and Usman Patel (57*) contributed as Kuwait chased down the total in just 15.2 overs with eight wickets in hand. The Malaysian bowlers tried but failed to defend the total and suffered their first loss of the competition.
The 15th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A 2024 was also a low-scoring one. Myanmar elected to bat first but the decision backfired as they got knocked over on 51 in 17 overs by Maldives. Only Htet Lin Oo (14) managed to get to double digits.
It was a collective effort from Maldives as each of their five bowlers entered the wickets column. Umar Adam picked up three scalps and gave away only 11 runs in his four overs.
Chasing a modest total, Umar Adam (20) and Ismail Ali (23*) stepped up and helped their side chase down the total in 5.3 overs. With this nine-wicket win, Maldives registered their first win of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A 2024.
