Two matches took place on Monday in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A 2024 at Apia’s Faleata Oval No 2. Cook Islands and Vanuatu registered huge wins over Samoa and Fiji, respectively, to round up the day.
Following the two one-sided results, Cook Islands jumped to the top of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A points table with four points courtesy of two wins in as many games. Their NRR stands at a formidable 1.718 at the moment.
Samoa slipped to number two on the four-team standings after losing out to Cook Islands in Apia. Interestingly, their NRR of 1.842 even supersedes that of table-toppers Cook Islands. Vanuatu also lost a rung to be ranked third on the table, while winless Fiji occupies the fourth spot for crashing to two huge defeats in successive matches.

For Samoa, captain Caleb Jasmat top-scored with 42 runs from 32 balls before a lower-order collapse ensured they lost their final seven wickets for just 38 runs.
Chasing 105, Cook Islands opener Hayden Dickson made 30 off 19 and unbeaten Aue Parima (25*) and Cory Dickson (30*) took them past the finishing line with seven wickets and more than five overs to spare.
In the second match of the double-header, Vanuatu batted first and formed 157/4 from 20 overs courtesy of a well-compiled 50-ball 82 from Andrew Mansale.
