Italy continues to lead Group A standings after Day 3 of ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier A 2024
Italy continued to consolidate their position at the top of the Group A points table with three consecutive wins after they beat Isle of Man. They boast an impressive NRR of 2.189. Despite the defeat, Isle of Man retained their second position while France and Luxembourg are placed third and fourth respectively.
Turkey remains at the bottom of the points table with two defeats in two games.
Austria clinches second win to top Group B
Austria dethroned Romania to move to the top of Group B after their seven-wicket triumph over Portugal with a positive NRR of 1.675. Romania slipped to the second position due to their inferior NRR of 0.577 as compared to Austria.
Hungary moved up a spot to third place due to their superior NRR of -0.242 while Portugal slipped to the fourth position with a NRR of -0.689.
With two defeats, Israel continues to remain at the bottom of the table.
Italy, Austria, Luxembourg, and Hungary clinch wins on Day 3
Isle of Man batted first and folded up for a paltry total of just 85. Jaspreet Singh was the wrecker-in-chief with the ball for Italy, picking up four wickets while Thomas Draca claimed three.
In reply, Italy scaled down the target comfortably in 14.3 overs with seven wickets to spare. Anthony Mosca (30*) and Harry Manenti (31*) guided them over the line with ease.
Austria secured a dominating win over Portugal. They restricted Portugal to 125/9. Jalpesh Vijay (42) and Suman Ghimire (53*) top-scored for Portugal. Abdullah Akbarjan bagged four wickets for Austria. Karanbir Singh led the charge for Austria in the run chase, smashing a 31-ball 51 while skipper Aqib Iqbal applied the finishing touches with an unbeaten 8-ball 16 as they won with five overs remaining.
Luxembourg put up a decent total of 147/9 batting first against Turkey. Timothy Barker scored 59 runs at the top while Gokhan Alta picked up three wickets with the ball.
Chasing the target, Turkey were skittled out for just 74 runs as Luxembourg scripted a thumping 73-run win. Vikram Vijh (3) and Momand Milad (2) were the top wicket-takers for them with the ball.
In the last game of the day, Hungary restricted Israel to 122/8 bowling first. Muhammad Burhan ran through the batters, grabbing four wickets. However, Hungary had a tough time chasing the target. Muhammad Ghani (36), Ali Farasat (26) and Mark Des Fontaine (24) were the significant scorers as they won the game with a solitary wicket to spare.
