Germany defeated Gibraltar by 44 runs in the third match of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Europe Qualifier B on Monday, July 8.

Norway beat Sweden by a margin of 55 runs in the fourth match of the qualifiers, while Croatia defeated Belgium by the DLS method as rain interrupted play in the fifth match of the qualifiers.

Jersey continues to top Group A of the qualifiers with two points in one game at an NRR of +8.250.

Croatia’s win over Belgium puts them in the second spot with two points and a net run rate of +0.330, while Belgium has won one of the two games played so far and is in the third position with two points and a net run rate of +0.191.

Switzerland and Serbia occupy the fourth and fifth positions on the points table, with one loss each and a net run rate of -0.635 and -8.250, respectively.

Norway, after their win over Sweden, claimed the top spot in Group B of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier B. Norway has garnered two points and an NRR of +2.650.

Germany won their fixture against Gibraltar and are second on the Group B points table with two points and a net run rate of 2.200.

Gibraltar are in third place in Group B with zero points in one game played so far and an NRR of -2.200, while Sweden languishes at the bottom of the points table with zero points and an NRR of -2.650.


Germany and Norway win the qualifiers by sizable margins; Croatia defeats Belgium by DLS

Germany were put to the test first by Gibraltar in the third match of the qualifiers. While all four top-order batters got starts for Germany, they failed to capitalize. Batting at number five for Germany, Harmanjot Singh had other plans as the middle-order batter scored 58 off just 33 deliveries. Harmanjot Singh’s innings consisted of three boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 175.75. Fayaz Khan complemented Singh’s innings with his 10-ball-27. In the end, Germany managed to put up a score of 183 in 19.4 overs.

Samarth Bodha took a four-wicket haul for Gibraltar.

Gibraltar managed to score just 139/6 in 20 overs, with Iain Latin top scoring for them with a 38-ball 58 as Germany emerged victorious against Gibraltar by 44 runs. Muslim Yar took two wickets, while Fayaz Khan, Ghulam Ahmadi, Mussadiq Ahmed, and Harmanjot Singh took one wicket each for Germany.

Sweden chose to bowl first against Norway in the fourth match of the qualifiers. Norway took full advantage of the first innings as they piled up a first-inning total of 185/8 in 20 overs, with Khizer Ahmed and Walid Ghauri scoring 40 and 59 runs, respectively. Khizer Ahmed scored his runs at an SR of 173.91, while Walid Ghauri batted at a strike rate of 163.88.

In reply, Sweden were restricted to a paltry 132 in just 17 overs as Ajay Mundra top-scored with his 41. Norway bowlers Wahidullah Sahak and Anil Parmar were co-wreckers in chief as they dismantled the Swedish batting lineup with three wickets each to their name.

Meanwhile, the fifth match of the qualifiers saw Croatia bat first against Belgium. Skipper Christopher Turkich (20) and Daniel Marsic (37) got Croatia off to a decent start, but it was Zach Vulusic’s 53 off 35 balls at a strike rate of 151.43. Croatia posted a total of 140/6 in 20 overs.

In reply, Belgium’s top order collapsed big time as they quickly lost three out of their four wickets. Muhammad Muneeb (54 off 48) steadied Belgium’s innings while Saber Zahil (20* off 7) was playing well when rain interrupted, and Croatia won the game by 5 runs via the DLS Method.
