Jersey crush Serbia by 165 runs; Belgium come out on top against Switzerland
Jersey opted to bat first in the first qualifier against Serbia and posted a mammoth total of 233/3 in 20 overs. The opening duo of Harrison Carlyon and Nick Greenwood added 194 runs for the first wicket. Harrison Carlyon scored a scintillating 110 off 57 balls at a strike rate of 192.98, while Nick Greenwood played a good supporting role, scoring 85 off 52 at a strike rate of 163.46.
Chasing 234 was always going to be tough, but Serbia collapsed meekly under the scoreboard pressure as they were bundled out for 68 in 18.2 overs. First-innings batting hero Nick Greenwood took 3/8 in 3.2 overs with an economy rate of 2.40. Jersey won this qualifier by a margin of 165 runs.
The second qualifier between Switzerland and Belgium was a fairly even contest, with the Swiss piling up 172/5 in 20 overs. Skipper Faheem Nazir (42 off 26) and his opening partner Idrees Ul Haque (55 off 43) made significant contributions at the top of the innings, while Ahmed Hassan’s 49 off 34 in the middle order helped them put a respectable score on the board. Dumon Dewald took two wickets for Belgium.
Chasing 173, Burhan Niaz’s 72* off 37 helped Belgium secure the win five balls and two wickets to spare. Niaz scored four boundaries and five sixes at a SR of 194.59. Switzerland skipper Faheem Nazir took three wickets for his side, while Abdullah Rana and Aneesh Kumar ended their spells with two wickets each.
