Star England batter Joe Root is within touching distance of Kane Williamson by climbing to the second spot in the ICC Test Rankings among batters. Root had a brilliant game against the West Indies, scoring his 32nd Test hundred in the process, and managed to increase his rating points to 852, just seven points behind Williamson (859) in first.
Root scored 122 off 178 balls and formed a massive partnership in the second innings with Harry Brook, who also had a brilliant outing. Brook scored 109 off 132 balls and helped England set West Indies a challenging target of 385. The Windies faltered for just 143 as the hosts won the second Test by 241 runs and also took an unassailable lead in the series.
Another brilliant performance from Harry Brook sees him rise to the third spot in the ICC Test Rankings among batters. He has moved four rungs up with 771 rating points, three more than Pakistan star Babar Azam in fourth place.
Other England players' progress in ICC Test Rankings
England opener Ben Duckett continues to be one of the flagbearers of the Bazball ideology with scores of 71 and 76 in the second Test against the West Indies. He has risen six places to the 16th position with 687 rating points.
Ollie Pope scored a fantastic 121 in the first innings and backed it up with a half-century as well, making a crucial contribution in England's win. He has risen eight places to 21st rank with 659 rating points.
Chris Woakes had a brilliant outing against the West Indies, picking up six wickets in the match and that helped him rise to the 20th position in the ICC Test Rankings among bowlers. Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir repaid the faith shown in him with a fifer in the second innings and has risen 18 spots to 53rd position.
