ICC World Test Championship points table (Updated) as on August 12 after WI vs SA 2024 1st Test

South Africa have moved up from eighth to seventh position in the ICC World Test Championship points table after a draw against West Indies. The first Test of the two-match series between South Africa and West Indies ended in a stalemate earlier today (August 12) at the Queen's Park Oval.

West Indies were 201/5 in a run-chase of 298 when both captains decided to shake hands and share points in the ICC World Test Championship points table. Both teams earned four points each because of the draw.

South Africa's points percentage has increased from 25% to 26.67% after the stalemate at the Queen's Park Oval. Because of the draw in this Test match, Bangladesh have dropped down to the eighth position with 25% points to their name.

Meanwhile, West Indies continue to languish at the bottom of the points table with 20.83% points to their name. The Caribbean team have one win, five losses and two draws after eight matches in the ongoing WTC cycle.

South Africa can jump to 5th position in ICC World Test Championship points table soon

The second Test of the West Indies vs South Africa series will begin on August 15 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. If the Proteas win that Test match, they can overtake Pakistan and England to attain the fifth position in the ICC World Test Championship points table. A win in Guyana can boost the Proteas' points percentage to 38.89%.

On the other side, if West Indies emerge victorious at the Providence Stadium, they can push South Africa to the ninth position in the standings. West Indies' points percentage will increase to 29.63%, taking them to the seventh position above Bangladesh and South Africa, whose percentage will decline to 22.22%.

In case the Guyana Test ends in a draw as well, South Africa and West Indies will hold on to their respective positions in the World Test Championship points table.
