India continue to be the number one team in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table after an emphatic series win against Bangladesh. Playing at home, India whitewashed Bangladesh 2-0 in the two-match Test series.
Rohit Sharma's men won the first Test in Chennai last week, and earlier today (October 1), they completed a clean-sweep by beating Bangladesh in Kanpur. An extraordinary batting performance helped India win by seven wickets even though rain did not allow any action on the second and third days of the Test match.
Thanks to the seven-wicket victory at Green Park, India's points percentage has increased from 71.67% to 74.24%. On the other side, Bangladesh's points percentage has gone down from 39.29% to 30.56%. The Tigers have dropped from fifth to seventh position in the ICC World Test Championship points table, allowing New Zealand and South Africa to gain one spot each.
India, Australia, Sri Lanka, and England continue to be the top four teams in the standings. The next WTC series will take place between Pakistan and England in Pakistan.
Pakistan may drop down to the 9th position in the ICC World Test Championship points table soon
Shan Masood-led Pakistan team has struggled to make an impact in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle. They hold the eighth position in the WTC standings with only 19.05% points to their name.
Considering the fact that Pakistan lost their previous home Test series against Bangladesh, England will start as the favorites to win the upcoming series. If England win the series by 3-0, they will solidify their place in the top 4 of the ICC World Test Championship points table.
Meanwhile, if Pakistan lose the series by 0-3, then they will slip from eighth to ninth position. A 0-3 defeat will take Pakistan's points percentage down to 13.33%.
