Australia put themselves in a decent position in the fourth Test against India after a brilliant rearguard effort from their lower order on Day 4 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). They reached 228/9 at stumps on Sunday (December 29) and extended their lead to 333 runs, with one day to go in the contest.
The visiting team commenced with an overnight score of 358/9 in the morning. They managed to add 11 more runs before Nitish Reddy departed as the final wicket after scoring 114 (189).
Jasprit Bumrah (4/56) and Mohammed Siraj (3/66) combined to trigger a collapse as they reduced Australia to 91/6. Marnus Labuschagne (70), Pat Cummins (41), and Nathan Lyon (41*) rescued the hosts from a tricky situation and helped them to 228/9, frustrating the Indian bowlers and fans. Scott Boland and Lyon have already put together 55 runs for the final wicket after facing 110 balls.

"I still feel India can do it" - Aakash Chopra on chances of India's win on Day 5 of Boxing Day Test vs Australia BGT 2024-25
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra remained optimistic about India's chances of a victory despite Australia having a lead of 333 runs heading into the final day of the Boxing Day Test.
Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra stated:
"Where will the match go from here? That's a very, very big question. The tail has troubled us. If we had taken our chances, we would have had to chase a score less than 250. Removing the tail is an art and it is a slight problem. Let's be very honest, the job is difficult with the old Kookaburra ball. A draw is also a possibility because 300-plus runs will be required in 90-odd overs."
He continued:
"There is a possibility that you play 90 overs and don't score that many runs. However, I don't think this match will be a draw unless it rains, which it won't. I still feel India can do it. If you keep this Australian bowling attack on the ground for 30-40 overs, the cracks start showing up, but the cracks are also showing on the pitch. It will be crucial how Yashasvi Jaiswal starts."
