Former England batter Kevin Pietersen has backed Virat Kohli's antics in the ongoing Boxing Day Test between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, December 27. Kohli was involved in a spat with young Sam Konstas on Day 1 before the crowd turned on him.
Pietersen, who was known to be quite the character himself, took to X (formerly Twitter) to support Kohli. The latter was fined 20 per cent of his match fee and handed a demerit point for shoulder-charging Konstas, who was tearing into the Indian bowling attack in the first session of Day 1.
"Virat creating theatre down under! Let’s GO! Imagine how boring it would be without the showman! And he’s earned EVERYTHING with his runs over his career! Many would end their successful international careers with a 1/4 of what he’s achieved…." wrote Pietersen on X.
Here is the tweet:
India in a precarious position on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test
India find themselves in a precarious position at stumps on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test. They finished the day at 164-5. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the top-scorer for the visitors with a brilliant 82. He looked all set to score a hundred but his stay was cut short due to a mix-up with Kohli.
Australia were bowled out for 474 in their first innings earlier on Day 2, with former captain Steve Smith leading the chart with a stellar 140. Jasprit Bumrah, who led the Men in Blue to a win in Perth, ended with figures of 4-99, the best among India's bowlers. Rohit Sharma's side currently trail by 310 runs.
