Indian cricketer Devdutt Padikkal shared a heartwarming story on social media on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, about an encounter with a young Australian fan at a cricket store, to whom he bought some equipment.
The 24-year-old described meeting an excited Australian boy, who was eagerly searching for a new bat and gear. Moved by the sight and reminded of his childhood, Padikkal decided to make the moment even more special by offering to pay for the boy’s new cricket equipment.
The Indian cricketer took to his Instagram stories to share a picture with the young kid and wrote:
“Saw this little kid at the cricket store today with his mom, all excited looking for a new bat and other gear. Reminded me of my childhood and how special these days at the store used to be. Offered to give him whatever he wanted on the day hoping to make his day a little bit more special. Simple joys.”
In the absence of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, left-handed batter Padikkal featured in the first Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he scored 0 and 25 across the two innings. India delivered a remarkable performance, winning the match by 295 runs.
However, Padikkal did not get any playing time in the subsequent matches. The hosts excelled in the final four games, winning three.
Australia clinched the series 3-1, preventing India from securing their third consecutive series win Down Under. With this victory, Australia also secured their spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, joining South Africa. This will be the first time India will not be part of the summit clash.
Devdutt Padikkal has played four games for India

Meanwhile, he made his Test debut in the home series against England in 2024. Overall, he has played two Tests, amassing 90 runs, including a fifty.
