Former Indian captain Virat Kohli's wife, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, and his brother Vikas Kohli marked their presence on Day 1 (Friday, January 3) of the fifth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The match is taking place at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Anushka and Vikas were seen sitting together, with Jasprit Bumrah’s wife, Sanjana Ganesan, also appearing in the frame.

Meanwhile, the Delhi-born cricketer failed to make an impact, edging a delivery from Scott Boland, with debutant Beau Webster taking a sharp catch at slip. The right-handed batter made 17 off 69 balls.

Kohli hasn't had the series he would have hoped for, given his caliber. The 36-year-old showcased his class in the second innings of the first Test in Perth, where he scored an unbeaten century, helping India secure a 295-run victory.

However, things have taken a downturn since then, with scores of 7, 11, 3, 36, 5, and 17 in his next six innings. Overall, he has accumulated just 184 runs in eight innings, at a modest average of 26.28.

India won the toss and chose to bat first in the fifth Test of the 2024-25 BGT, with Jasprit Bumrah captaining the side after regular skipper Rohit Sharma opted out due to a challenging run of form with the bat. Shubman Gill replaced him in the XI, while Prasidh Krishna came in for the injured Akash Deep.

However, India’s start was far from ideal, as they lost their top four: Yashasvi Jaiswal (10), KL Rahul (4), Shubman Gill (20), and Virat Kohli (17) for cheap scores. Rishabh Pant battled through some tough moments to score 40 off 98 balls, but India found themselves at 120-5.

Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had scored a century in the previous game, was dismissed for a golden duck, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed 26 off 95 balls. At the time of writing, India were struggling at 148/8 after 66 overs, with Scott Boland leading the charge for Australia picking four wickets.
