[In Pictures] Captain Rohit Sharma gears up to play 1st game for India after T20 World Cup triumph

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has hit the training nets ahead of the India vs Sri Lanka ODI series. It will be Sharma's first series since lifting the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in the Caribbean on June 29.

Rohit posted three photos from his training session on Instagram earlier today (July 30). It is pertinent to note that this will be Rohit's first ODI match since the November 19 heartbreak in the 2023 World Cup Final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

In the first photo, Rohit had a big smile on his face as Kuldeep Yadav geared up to bowl in the background. The second and third photos featured Rohit on the practice pitches, checking his stance and shot.

Fans loved the pictures posted by Rohit on Instagram. The carousel has already received more than a million likes on Instagram. Over 18,000 fans have left a comment under the post as well, with the majority of them expressing their excitement to see the captain back in the blue jersey after a month-long break.

Can Rohit Sharma help India win another ODI series against Sri Lanka?

Last year, Sri Lanka visited India for a three-match ODI series, where the Men in Blue destroyed their neighbors under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. India also beat Sri Lanka twice in the Asia Cup and the World Cup, with the Asia Cup final and World Cup match being quite lopsided.

India won the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka by 10 wickets, and then crushed them by 302 runs in the group-stage match of the World Cup.

The islanders will be keen for revenge when they lock horns with Rohit Sharma and co. in the upcoming series. The first ODI will take place at the R. Premadasa Stadium on August 2.
