New Zealand and Chennai Super Kings opener Devon Conway and his wife Kim were blessed with the birth of a baby girl during the third Test between the Kiwis and England at Seddon Park in Hamilton, New Zealand on Monday, 15 December.
Kim Conway shared pictures of the baby girl, whom they have decided to name Olivia. The southpaw missed this Test to be at the side of his family in Wellington, where the second Test was played and which New Zealand lost by 323 runs.
Here are some pictures of the occasion:
Mark Chapman was called up to the squad as Conway's replacement but did not feature in the playing XI. Instead, Will Young opened the innings for the Kiwis alongside skipper Tom Latham and registered scores of 42 and 60.
Conway's decision to give the Test a miss and be with his family during Olivia's birth was wholeheartedly supported by New Zealand head coach Gary Stead.
"Family comes first in this environment and we're all really excited for Dev and his wife Kim to welcome their first child," Stead had said.
Devon Conway was purchased by CSK in the IPL auction after letting him go at first
Conway was released by CSK ahead of the IPL mega-auction earlier this year. However, the Chennai-based franchise then out-bid Punjab Kings to bring him back into their fold.
The South African-born opener is known for his impeccable technique in red-ball cricket. However, he has adapted his game extremely well to suit the demands and rigors of the white ball.
Conway scored 672 runs at a strike rate of 139 for CSK in IPL 2023 but missed out on the 2024 edition of the tournament with an injury. It was surprising to see him being let go by the franchise in the first place. However, he will now be seen at the Chepauk yet again.
