Team India's Harshit Rana's miserable outing in Adelaide ended with a duck, resulting in an embarrassing pair in the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia. He tried to survive against Pat Cummins' relentless bouncer barrage but ultimately perished to get the Aussies closer to a series-leveling win.
Rana came into bat after Australians struck early on Day 3 to remove Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin. Cummins' bouncers had already impacted the innings after claiming KL Rahul and Ashwin as victims.
The skipper stuck with the plan for the lower order, having a short leg in place too to trap the player. Rana had survived a scare after Travis Head failed to locate the ball going over his head at close range. Soon after, a searing bouncer from Starc struck him on the helmet.
After dealing with another bouncer from Cummins in the 34th over, Rana perished while trying to deal with a similar delivery. He got into an uncomfortable position while trying to jump, causing the ball to lob straight up after hitting the edge.
Rana had endured a poor outing with the ball, ending up wicket-less after bowling 16 overs and conceding 86 runs.
Team India bowled out for 175 in the second innings as Rana and Siraj perish
Australia made quick work of India's lower half after doing the heavy work on Day 2 under the lights. The hosts made a dominant start by dismissing Rishabh Pant in the first over itself. While all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy led a brief charge, it proved futile as Pat Cummins ran through the lower order with bouncers.
The Australian captain finished with a five-wicket haul to bowl out India for 175, five short of their first-innings score. The hosts only need to chase down 19 runs to level the series 1-1, with three matches remaining.
