[In Pictures] Neha Dhupia attends BGT 2024-25 5th Test wearing legendary Indian spinner’s Test sweater

Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia wore her late father-in-law and legendary India spinner Bishan Singh Bedi’s Test sweater on Day 1 (Friday, January 3) of the fifth and final Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Sydney. Along with the gesture, Dhupia paid tribute to Bedi with an emotional post on social media.

This was Dhupia’s second appearance in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series. She was also present during the fourth game in Melbourne, cheering for Nitish Kumar Reddy's maiden Test century from the stands alongside her husband Angad Bedi, who is also an actor.

Dhupia wrote on Instagram:

“Wearing this sweater has a different kind of warmth…I remember so clearly when dad asked what would u like as a wedding present i asked him for his test cricket 🏏 sweater and how it would be the most special gift for me.”

“… so here it is, along with his strength, resilience, integrity, and generosity I also feel a sense of honour donning this while watching my first test in person … with my ♥️ @angadbedi 🏏. We miss you every day dad … ♥️💔 ♾️,” she added.

Former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi died at the age of 77 on October 23, 2023. He represented India in 67 Tests and 10 ODIs, bagging 273 wickets across formats. He finished with 1560 scalps in his first-class career. Post-retirement, he also served as manager and national team’s selector.

What happened on Day 1 of India vs Australia 5th BGT 2024-25 Test?

Opting to bat, India were bundled out for 185 runs in their first innings. Rishabh Pant scored 40, while Ravindra Jadeja and captain Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with 26 and 22, respectively.

Scott Boland emerged as the leading wicket-taker for the hosts, picking up four wickets. Mitchell Starc and skipper Pat Cummins also bagged three and two wickets, respectively.

At Stumps on Day 1, Australia were 9/1, with Sam Konstas at the crease.

Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja (2 off 10) off the last ball of the day. The left-hander was caught by KL Rahul in the slip cordon, perishing to Bumrah for the sixth time in the series.
