Team India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy's family was present in the stands when he notched up his maiden international century in the ongoing Boxing Day Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Melbourne. The youngster reached his ton with a stunning four off Scott Boland's bowling on Day 3 (Saturday, December 28).
After the end of the day's play, Nitish's family met ace Indian batter Virat Kohli at the team hotel. The 21-year-old's father Mutyala Reddy and other family members interacted and clicked pictures with the former captain.
The Reddy family also met Kohli's wife Anushka Sharma at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and posed for pictures with the popular Bollywood actress.
Nitish Kumar Reddy earned massive praise for his clutch knock in India's first innings of the Boxing Day Test. Walking out to bat when the visitors were reeling at 191/6, the right-hander showcased exemplary composure under pressure and finished with a score of 114.
His batting exploits helped India register 369 in response to Australia's 474-run total. Nitish has looked in wonderful form with the bat and is India's team's leading run-getter in the ongoing series, with 293 runs across six innings at an average of 58.60.
"My father also idolises him" - Nitish Kumar Reddy's sister on Virat Kohli
Nitish Kumar Reddy, on many occasions, has spoken about his admiration for Virat Kohli. The all-rounder's sister Tejaswi Reddy recently revealed that not just Nitish, but their father is also a big fan of the veteran batter.
Expressing her delight over meeting Kohli and Anushka Sharma during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Tejaswi said (quoted as saying by TOI):
"It is not just my brother who idolises Virat bhai. My father also idolises him and the whole family is a fan of Virat bhai and his family. So meeting Anushka ma'am also was a very memorable moment for us."
Nitish's father was visibly emotional on seeing his son's maiden Test century and shed tears of joy. The player's performance gave India some hope after their top-order stars, barring Yashasvi Jasiwal (82) failed to make a significant impact in the innings.
