The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla has stated that India's squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy is likely to be announced on January 19. Bangladesh, New Zealand, Afghanistan and England have named their squads for the eight-nation ICC event so far.

The International Cricket Council had set January 12 as the deadline for teams to announce their provisional squads for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will get underway on February 19. As per some reports, though, the BCCI is likely to seek an extension and announce their squad on January 19.

Speaking after a Special General Meeting on Sunday, BCCI vice-president told reporters (as quoted by Times of India)

"The Champions Trophy squad is likely to be announced on January 19."

At the meet held at BCCI's headquarters, Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were announced as the cricket board's new secretary and treasurer respectively.

While the ICC had set January 12 as the deadline for all eight teams to confirm their Champions Trophy squads, the sides have been given the option of changing their squads till February 13. Team India are runners-up in the Champions Trophy. They went down to Pakistan in the final of the previous edition held in 2017. While Pakistan will host the upcoming edition, India's matches will be held in Dubai.

The BCCI selection committee on Saturday named a 15-member squad for only the five-match T20I series against England at home. Experienced batter Suryakumar Yadav has been retained as captain, while all-rounder Axar Patel has been named as vice-captain.

Pacer Mohammed Shami is set to make a much-awaited comeback to international cricket after more than a year, having been named in the squad for the T20Is against England. There is no place for Rishabh Pant as Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel have been picked as the two keeper-batters. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been left out, while Abhishek Sharma retains his spot.
