India's ace speedster and vice-captain of the Test team, Jasprit Bumrah, has been named among the nominees for ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year 2024, the governing body of cricket announced on Monday, December 30.
The 31-year-old pacer enjoyed an outstanding 2024 in the longest format of the game. He has picked up 71 wickets in 13 matches at a remarkable average of 14.92, including five five-wicket hauls. Bumrah finished the year as the highest wicket-taker in Tests.
The other nominees are England's Harry Brook, Joe Root, and Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis. The young England sensation, Brook, had a phenomenal year with the bat, scoring 1,100 runs at a strike rate of 85.00.
His tally included three fifties and four centuries, highlighted by a maiden triple century against Pakistan. He also became the top-ranked player in the ICC Men’s Test batting rankings for the first time.
Meanwhile, his England teammate Joe Root had a record-breaking year, finishing as the leading run-scorer in Test cricket for 2024. The 34-year-old accumulated 1,556 runs in 17 matches, including six centuries. He equaled Rahul Dravid’s record of 36 Test centuries and became the highest run-scorer for England in Test history.
The final nominee, Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis, was equally impressive, scoring 1,049 runs in nine matches at an average of 74.92, with three fifties and five centuries to his name.

Jasprit Bumrah reached the milestone of 200 wickets in the fourth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Melbourne.
Although India lost the match by 184 runs, Bumrah delivered an outstanding performance, taking nine wickets across two innings. In doing so, he became the first bowler ever to claim 200 wickets at an average of under 20.
The star pacer has taken 203 wickets in 44 Test matches, including 13 five-wicket hauls.
